The duties of the President shall include:
- Providing leadership to the Board of Directors.
- Ensuring the Board adheres to its bylaws and constitution.
- Chairing meetings of the Executive Committee. This may include coordinating the committee's work, preparing the agenda, and acting on behalf of the Board in emergencies outlined in the mandate.
- Initiates the process of choosing a chairperson for the next meeting when necessary.
- Helping the chairperson draft board meeting agendas in concert with the secretary and executive director.
- Ensuring that committee chairpersons are appointed.
- Orienting Board Members and committee chairpersons to the Board.
- Encouraging Board members to participate in meetings and activities.
- Keeping the Board's activities focused on the organization's mission.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of the Board's decision-making process.
- Ensuring that there is a process to evaluate the effectiveness of Board Members, using measurable criteria.
- Recognizing board members' contributions to the board's work.
- Serving as ex-officio member of committees and attends their meetings when needed.
- Acting as one of the signing officers for cheques and other documents, such as contracts and grant applications.
- Playing a leading role in ensuring the financial sustainability of Bike Edmonton.
- Promoting the organization's purpose in the community and to the media.
- Preparing an annual report for the Annual General Meeting of the organization for adoption by the board. Presenting the report at the AGM.
- Ensuring that the board remains focused on governance issues and that staff and volunteers implement and manage programs and services
- Orienting the new President.
