General Purpose

  • EBC seeks to promote cycling within Edmonton. BikeWorks is an important public face of this mission. We seek to increase the accessibility of Bikeworks by reaching out to individuals who may feel less comfortable in this space.
  • We recognize that differences in gender, sexuality, language, ethnicity, income level, or physical difference or disability may discourage people from making use of this resource.
  • Creating an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment is an important preliminary step to supporting all cyclists. Beyond this, we recognize that these populations may have experienced structural barriers to participating in a cycling community and need to be reintroduced to the sport.
  • Our purpose is thus two-fold:
    • education of BikeWorks volunteers,and
    • outreach to under-served populations.
