President’s Report: Michael Kalmanovitch

-involved in city planning

-high profile media year

-ghost bikes – getting lots of attention

-membership up

-new grant money received – will go towards new position

-will get a charitable licence this year

-ebc will match grant 20,000/year

-Alex working in shop to get things organised and clean

-two full time mechanics were hired over the summer

-yard clean ups – good but need to be more organised –recycled 6.5tons this year – hiring it out rather than u-hauls worked well….continue that this year

-MEC club night-new members


Membership Report: Kent McFee

2008 AGM numbers [2007 AGM number for comparison]

-349 total members [287]

-305 paying members [243]

-242 new members [176]

-63 renewals [67]

-595 members including expired-in-last-year category [387]



Treasurer’s Report: Chris Chan

BikeWorks

-2 paid mechanics

-organisation/cleanliness of shop – changes need to be made

-Alex has been working on it. Would like input. Has been given board approval to make improvements and changes

-open mon, wed, sat

-will be cutting back…no Mondays soon

-Sundays for women only suggested

-this is not a solution – this is a temporary way of welcoming women

-Coreen, Zoe and Ang will share the Sunday shift

-greeters in the shop made a huge difference


Adam Millie moves the membership of EBC directs the board of EBC to make resolution addressing issues involving accessibility at the first board meeting of the year.

Charitable Status

-discussion about why or why not?


Scott McAnsh moves that whoever is hired as Project Manager by EBC will make every effort to make EBC a registered charity.

Advocacy

-Bicycle master plan is coming up for review in front of council in February

-ward meetings….bikes came up in every ward

-working to make a presentation to council to encourage them to fund & implement the plan. To make a commitment to active transportation with dollar amounts for every year


Bike Month: Barb Allard

-ding ding girls have been working to create a ‘bike month coalition’

-have met twice

-mission statement, draft pitch for board members, potential board members list…created

-name to come

-bike month 2009 promotion plan

-pressure from supporters for more recognition/ownership


Awards

Jack Granger Award: Molly Turnbull received this award in recognition of her tireless effort to promote cycling in Edmonton and her hard work put into Bime Month.

Dale Alsop Award: Robert Drinkwater received this award in recognition of his dedication as a mechanic at the shop and as a volunteer at EBC events in the community.


New Board Election

Michael Kalmanovitch, Steve Andersen, Alex Hindle, Chris Chan, Scott McAnsh, Bill Sellers, Ang McCartney, Scott Harris will stay on the board.


Zoe Todd and Erich Welz will be joining the board.


Executive will be chosen by the board at the next meeting. (November 13, 2008)
