132 Avenue Collector RenewalEngagement closes tonight132 Avenue between Fort Road and 127 Street is undergoing a renewal process, with construction anticipated to start in 2023. This corridor is a critical missing link identified in the Bike Plan. Three options for cycling infrastructure are proposed in the 132 Ave biking information package, and you still have a few hours to provide your feedback until the end of tonight, Thursday, May 20. Join the biking discussion on Engaged Edmonton to leave your comments and ideas. See our thoughts on our website. You can also complete the online survey and leave comments about driving, traffic calming, walking, parking, and gathering spaces on the full engagement page. |

Speed Limit Reductions, Street Labs, and Vision ZeroStreet Labs create an opportunity to trial temporary traffic safety solutions on your streets quickly: you can see them on your neighbourhood's streets this summer! Visit the City's website to learn more about getting changes on your streets. Residential speed limits, as well as speed limits on Whyte Ave and Jasper Ave, will be lowered to 40 km/h in August. The City's website has an interactive map, estimated time of arrival tool, and FAQ about the changes. We're looking forward to this change, as evidence overwhelmingly shows that speed reductions save lives. The City of Edmonton has released its Vision Zero Annual Report 2020. Serious injuries and deaths of vulnerable road users (pedestrians, cyclists) were down about 50% in 2020 from the year prior, continuing a downard trend since 2015. Cyclist injuries and deaths had remained stable in preceding years, though this still indicates a lower rate of injuries, as the numbers of people cycling has dramatically grown since 2015. Even still, we installed our first ghost bike since 2017 at the start of this year, on a residential road connecting to a well-used shared path. With the municipal election approaching quickly, it is important to continue to question your candidates about their understanding of active transportation and livable communities, and volunteer for candidates who support your values. |

Northeast trails and route closuresAda Boulevard, Capilano Park closedDid you know that we have relatively new trails in the northeast, which will be linked together by a proposed new bridge over the North Saskatchewan? The trails don't show up in Google, but we made a map you can follow! You can also find the Edmonton-side in the Discover YEG Living Map. Note that Louise McKinney park trails are still cut off until at least the end of summer due to LRT construction and landscaping. Ada Boulevard bridge over Wayne Gretzky Drive is also closed and requires a detour using 112 Ave. Access through Capliano Park, including access to the 50 St pedestrian bridge, is severely limited and inaccessible for many people. |
