MOTHERLOAD at Metro Cinema! With a cargo bike show & tellSaturday, June 3, 2023, starting at 2pm.June is Bike Month, and this year we're kicking off the celebration on June 3 with a screening of MOTHERLOAD at Metro Cinema! All you need to do to attend this inspiring movie is RSVP today! The movie is free (donations accepted at the door for Bike Edmonton). MOTHERLOAD is an award-winning documentary that uses the cargo bike as the vehicle for exploring parenthood in this digital age of climate change. Filmmaker Liz Canning cycled everywhere until she had twins in 2008. Motherhood was challenging, but to Liz hauling babies via car felt stifling. She Googled “family bike” and uncovered a global movement of people replacing cars with cargo bikes: long-frame bicycles designed for carrying heavy loads. Liz set out to learn more, and MOTHERLOAD was born. Since its world premiere in May 2019, MOTHERLOAD has been on a Global Screening Tour featuring over 500 live and virtual venues. (See trailer.) Join us at the Garneau Lamp at 2pm on Saturday, June 3, for a "Cargo Bike Show and Tell" where you can try out different cargo bikes and ask questions of the owners. Following the chat, we'll head into Metro Cinema for special speakers and updates on Active Transportation in Edmonton ... and the screening of MOTHERLOAD. View more details on the Facebook event or RSVP. All proceeds to Bike Edmonton to support community programming. Suggested donation: $20 adult, $7 children. Space is limited, so RSVP today!
