The City is seeking feedback on the Touch the Water Promenade's two options: we prefer Threads. We also have updates on several pedestrian/bike overpasses and bike routes. And: get a Bike Edmonton t-shirt to support us! We also continue to have appointment-only access to our shops for repairs and bike purchases, as well as purchases of new and used parts.

Touch the Water Promenade Concept Designs

Threads vs Gateways

Survey closes Monday, November 30

The Touch the Water Promenade is an ambitious placemaking project for a central stretch of the North Saskatchewan River on its north bank between Government House Park/Groat Road and Rossdale (east of the Walterdale Bridge).

Touch the Water Promenade

The Gateways design features three large outdoor gathering spaces at Government House Park, High Level Bridge and Rossdale. It includes improvements to the shared-use path but largely focuses on creating three public square-like spaces along the project area.

The Threads design features seven smaller gathering sites spread out along the river’s edge, integrated with the promenade. It prioritizes connectivity and movement through a widened continuous pathway, with additional, separate pathways and lookouts nearer the river.

The Threads option is a better fit for this section of the river valley as a place for active transportation, recreation, and meeting.

Learn more about the project, and our preference, on our website. You can also view the full concept design options.

Please give your feedback in the City's quick polls, share your ideas or questions, and complete the more detailed survey if you have time, by to November 30.

Calder Final Design Engagement

Calder neighbourhood's final design includes a shared-use path along 129 Ave, and traffic calming along 120 St.

You can give your feedback on the plan until November 30. Visit the project website for more details and to complete the survey.

Community Investment Grant

Fall Supplemental Budget Adjustment

Beginning December 3, Council will be debating an update to Edmonton's operating and capital budgets. Many cuts to the operating budget are being proposed by Administration, including to the Community Investment Operating Grant. This grant helps over 300 non-profit organizations in the city to provide community & family supports, and address issues of poverty, gender equity, interculturalism, and the arts, among other areas.

The CIOG is one of very few ongoing operating grants available to non-profits. Many other grants support new programs, but don't allow organizations to continue & improve their core programs: the areas they focus on and excel at.

Let your councillor know that you support the Community Investment Grant.

Items in the Capital Budget that City Administration is not recommending for funding in this budget include:

  • 101 Ave streetscape
  • 105 Ave Streetscape (97 St to 109 St)
  • Active Transportation (additional locations) & Complete Streets
  • Saskatchewan Drive Bike Network Improvements
  • 170 St Footbridge
  • City sidewalk missing connections

You can view the budget adjustments and request to speak.

Casino

December 30 & 31, 2020

We are currently scheduled to volunteer at a licenced casino event on Dec 30-31, with a reduced number of hours and volunteers from regular casinos. There is a reasonable possibility that the entire casino event will be postponed but in the meantime, we must proceed and recruit enough volunteers to staff the event. Casino events typically generate around $75,000 in revenue for our organization.

For more info, and to sign up as a volunteer, please visit our website.
