Our South Community Bike Workshop will be closing permanently at the end of the day on Sunday June 16th. The shop was consistently bustling, but the building changed hands last year and its new owners were unwilling to sign a new lease without a substantial rent increase. We hoped to relocate nearby, but a search found no suitable affordable spaces. This came during a challenging financial time for Bike Edmonton, and after much discussion and analysis, our Board of Directors concluded that we must consolidate operations out of our downtown shop.

Our South Shop is Closing

Sunday June 16th Will Be The Final Open Day

Our South Community Bike Workshop will be closing permanently at the end of the day on Sunday June 16th. The shop was consistently bustling, but the building changed hands last year and its new owners were unwilling to sign a new lease without a substantial rent increase. We hoped to relocate nearby, but a search found no suitable affordable spaces. This came during a challenging financial time for Bike Edmonton, and after much discussion and analysis, our Board of Directors concluded that we must consolidate operations out of our downtown shop

The current south shop has been part of the community for over a decade. Thousands of bikes of every sort passed through its doors, and countless people came and went, many having learned new skills and the confidence to use them. The closure of the shop marks the first time since the late 1980s that Bike Edmonton won’t have a south side location, and we sincerely regret the loss to the community. We know that many of our longstanding members value a south central shop space and we aspire to open another south shop sometime in the future.

This is an emotional time for many of us, but it’s also a very busy time as we work to close down the space and expand our downtown shop and services to help offset the south’s closing.

We want to give heartfelt thanks to all our excellent volunteers, patrons and staff who brought this one of a kind space to life throughout the years. Thank you.

Downtown Shop Growing

More space & hours to help offset south closure

We love bikes and want to help as many people as possible to get riding! Though we’re losing our south location, we were able to increase the size of the downtown shop. This extra space, plus increased hours and services, will boost our capacity downtown. Look forward to a dedicated bike sales area, longer hours, extra options for full service repairs and more. Specific hours and services will be forthcoming and posted at bikeedmonton.ca/hours as soon as they’re finalized.

Help needed with move

Lend a hand with the south closure and downtown setup

Want to wrangle bikes, spin a spanner, lay down floor and much, much more? We could sure use your help moving from the south shop and preparing the annex space downtown! Have a look at planned work sessions here. You don't need to be a current shop volunteer to help out, just sign up with your name and email through the above link (at the bottom of that page) and we'll make sure you are included on our email updates.

Getting to the Downtown Shop

The downtown shop is at 10612-105 Avenue, just across the street from MacEwan University. But don’t let the river valley stop you! There’s many ways to get there from the Old Strathcona area.

Our downtown shop is conveniently located along the 105 Avenue bike lane, with easy connections to the downtown bike grid and High Level Bridge. The most direct cycling connection from the south to downtown shops can be seen here.

If you're taking transit, the number 8 bus connects the two shops quite directly. And the downtown shop is just 2 blocks west of MacEwan LRT Station.

June is Bike Month
