New page

Present: Doug and Caylie
Location: Caylie’s

Mission and vision are direction, and provide a solid foundation
Where do we want to be in 5 years?
Charitable status vs. non-profit society?
In order to become a charity, essentially all of your activities need to be charitable activities (i.e., non-partisan), although 10% can be linked to advocacy
Beneficial for donations - businesses can give charitable donations
Creating a business model? What kinds of service charity provides, etc.

SWOT analysis a major component
performance indication - checking ourselves for progress; taking accountability for actions

Executive Summary
Mission
Vision
Values
SWOT analysis
Organizational goals
Key performance indicators
Charitable status application - may require “values,” organizational structure
Accountability
Organizational structure, both now and projected; staff growth (how, why); split into two groups (advocacy and everything else)
Assessment of programs/services
Community survey - can we map out respondents’ postal codes?

Advocacy:
Steve, Chris Co, Chris Chan, what’s the current report/future projection on this?

Accessibility & outreach:
Bike kitchens? Coops? Servicing outlying areas, incl. river valley. How accessible is a community bike shop/kitchen to you/how much would you use one/where do you want one?
Are our current locations adequate/accessible physically, socially and financially?
Becoming accessible to marginalized communities - who? Why?

Partnerships & sponsorships:
who, where
CSL partnerships at U of A for social science research, biking in the winter
Bike resources
Cycle touring; making information accessible to tourists/newcomers.

Action item: work on questionnaire to have it approved at December meeting so it can be out mid-December to mid-January
high schools, universities,
demographics
what do we do?
for whom do we do it?
how do we excel?
accessibility - financial and physical
Mechanics classes
Outreach
use of EBC communication

Market/community research - what schools/communities are hot or cold for cycling, who is/is not using our services and programs?
How can we connect people and organizations?
How can we drum up support and get help connecting the cycling infrastructure?

Beware of scope creep! Can we determine what we do so we know what we don’t know, and invite other people/organizations to take that up?
Address organizational structure of EBC: Current and long term projection. Define organizational values!

Fund and start/continue other organizations? The Spoke, BikeWorks, bike kitchens?

Making Edmonton more bike-tour-friendly?

How we redirect bicycle waste
Public communication
