Mission and vision are direction, and provide a solid foundation Where do we want to be in 5 years? Charitable status vs. non-profit society? In order to become a charity, essentially all of your activities need to be charitable activities (i.e., non-partisan), although 10% can be linked to advocacy Beneficial for donations - businesses can give charitable donations Creating a business model? What kinds of service charity provides, etc.

Executive Summary Mission Vision Values SWOT analysis Organizational goals Key performance indicators Charitable status application - may require “values,” organizational structure Accountability Organizational structure, both now and projected; staff growth (how, why); split into two groups (advocacy and everything else) Assessment of programs/services Community survey - can we map out respondents’ postal codes?

Advocacy: Steve, Chris Co, Chris Chan, what’s the current report/future projection on this?

Accessibility & outreach: Bike kitchens? Coops? Servicing outlying areas, incl. river valley. How accessible is a community bike shop/kitchen to you/how much would you use one/where do you want one? Are our current locations adequate/accessible physically, socially and financially? Becoming accessible to marginalized communities - who? Why?

Partnerships & sponsorships: who, where CSL partnerships at U of A for social science research, biking in the winter Bike resources Cycle touring; making information accessible to tourists/newcomers.

Action item: work on questionnaire to have it approved at December meeting so it can be out mid-December to mid-January high schools, universities, demographics what do we do? for whom do we do it? how do we excel? accessibility - financial and physical Mechanics classes Outreach use of EBC communication


Market/community research - what schools/communities are hot or cold for cycling, who is/is not using our services and programs? How can we connect people and organizations? How can we drum up support and get help connecting the cycling infrastructure?

Beware of scope creep! Can we determine what we do so we know what we don’t know, and invite other people/organizations to take that up? Address organizational structure of EBC: Current and long term projection. Define organizational values!

Fund and start/continue other organizations? The Spoke, BikeWorks, bike kitchens?
