Bike Repair 201: Brakes

In this hands-on class we'll review the tools and techniques needed to maintain, overhaul, and adjust brakes. You'll learn to recognize a wide range of potential problems, how to recognize and prevent damage due to poor maintenance, and how to choose replacement parts. You'll get hands-on experience with intermediate preventative maintenance/adjustments, and discover the simple step-by-step approach to making brakes work well. Bring your bike to learn about your own components and see how your bike ticks, or work on one in the shop. For hydraulic brakes, you'll see one demonstration and learn the basic principles for successfully bleeding or topping up hydraulic brake fluid. Please note that this class will cover common cantilever, v-brake, and disc brakes, but not rod or coaster brakes nor replacement of hydraulic hoses. 

This is an intermediate course. You don't need to be an expert with tools to get the most from this class, but you should have enough experience to know how to use basic tools. If you're just starting to learn about bike repair, we recommend you take Bike Repair 101: Hands-On Intro to Bike Maintenance class first to learn basics, though it's not necessary to get the most out of this workshop.
